Vanillin crystals for sulphovanillin reaction in an eppendorf tube.
Place a few crystals on a microscope slide and add a drop of 60% sulphuric acid (!Take appropriate precautions!). Mix and wait for it to go yellow.
Fresh solutions which are yellow are best but older solutions also work to some extent.
